What is therapeutic art?
Therapeutic art uses creative expression to support emotional healing, rewire the brain, reduce stress, and balance hormones and neurotransmitters. You don't have to be a "talented artist" to benefit from art. This is also called NeuroArt and expressive art. By engaging in something creative and using your senses, you can actually change the structure of your brain and rewire pathways. The very act of doing something creative is where most of the benefits come from, even if just scribbling or throwing paint at a piece of paper.
Who can benefit from these coaching sessions and what ages do you see?
Anyone seeking stress relief, self-discovery, or emotional balance can benefit. All ages will benefit from therapeutic art but coaching sessions maybe challenging for little ones. Ages 14 and up are usually a good fit. I'm happy to see younger children too with modifications and assistance from parents to help in the way that child might need for the most success.
How do sessions work and is this a group, or one-on-one session?
Sessions combine coaching conversations and guided art activities to tailor to your unique situation and needs. Health coaching is also available to those who are interested.
Prior to your first session, you will fill out the intake form. This form will discuss a wide range of subjects, such as what your day looks like, health questions, emotional well-being, goals, and more.
For your first session, we will go over the intake form so I can really get to know and understand you and your goals and challenges. This session could take anywhere from 1-3 hours. After our session, I'll create your action planner with creative exercises tailored to help you achieve success, peace, joy, and self-awareness in your life.
In future sessions, we will go over your goals and see what's going well and where there are still challenges. We will work together to get you closer to your goals. We will discuss your stresses, joys, and anything that you would like to discuss that can help us get you where you want to be in life. These sessions usually last 1-2 hours. After the call, I will get you a new action plan with more creative exercises that are fine-tuned to you, based on our call.
Regular coaching sessions are one-on-one. Though I will offer group sessions at times for a more social experience. Also, I offer courses in an online social learning environment.
No prior art skills are needed; this is about expression, not technique. You do not need to be able to draw or paint skillfully at all to benefit. No "special" supplies are needed. You may enjoy getting some new art supplies but most likely you have enough to start right at home or can get some cheaply from the store. If you have paper, a journal for writing, pen, pencil, and something to color with then you have enough to get started. I recommend the prompts and often add "in the medium of your choice" to fit your mood and materials you already have avaible. If you have glue and paint too that would be great!
Do I need art experience or special supplies?
How to book a session and are these sessions in person?
Reach out via the contact form or email, or through the shop listing to schedule your first session. Regular coaching sessions are not in person. They are done on the phone or through video call, depending on the wants of the client.
The frequency of the sessions is up to what is beneficial and desired by the client. Some people prefer weekly sessions, some 2 times a month, and some monthly. It depends on each unique situation. It's the same with how long someone will need coaching. Each person, situation, and timeframe is unique.
Are you a therapist or a doctor?
No, I am not a therapist or a doctor. I am a health and life coach who specializes in using therapeutic art, also called NeuroArt, as a way to help people rewire their brains and bring peace and joy into their lives.
What is the difference between a coach and a therapist?
There are several differences between a therapist and a coach. A therapist is a healthcare professional who provides clinical psychotherapy services. They can treat and diagnose mental health conditions. A coach is not a healthcare professional. A coach offers non-clinical services. They can't treat or diagnose health conditions.
There is a key difference between the focus and goal of a therapist and a coach. A therapist focuses on the reasons behind a client’s behaviors and thought patterns and tries to fix the problems through different methods, such as therapy and medications. Often their focus is on the patient's life that is in the past.
A life coach focuses on the future life of the client. They look at how their clients can overcome current problems and believe that the client can get to where they want to be in life. They just might need some guidance and training from a coach, just like in sports. It is the player who is running, catching, scoring, doing the drills, etc. The coach is just there to help guide, direct, and train the player. The player contains what is needed to succeed and meet their goals. They just need some guidance. And a coach believes their clients have what they need to succeed! We are here to help, cheer, encourage, and sometimes blow the whistle and push an extra lap or 2 to help the client do what the client really wants.
Life coaching may explore past experiences and emotional trauma to an extent. We are a product of our environment and life experiences. These things shape us and affect our limiting beliefs, motives, reactions, triggers, self-esteem, and so much more. Our past experiences are important. However, the focus will largely be on how clients can change their current behaviors and thoughts to build the lives they want for themselves.
There are times when a coach may need to refer a client to a health care professional. But both coaches and therapists are of great value and have their place. Different situations call for different approaches. You can have a coach and a therapist at the same time and gain the benefits from both professionals simultaneously.
My coaching services and program are donation-based. I know how it feels to be struggling and really needing someone's expertise, but unable to afford their services. I wanted to make it so that if anyone who is in need of my help but couldn't afford expensive coaching and programs could still get the help they needed.
Different donation amount options are available so that you can donate what you can afford and feel the course or service is worth. A special thanks to those who are generous and able to donate higher amounts. This makes it possible for me to offer my coaching services and program to those who can only donate smaller amounts or are not able to donate at all. If you would benefit from my coaching services or program but cannot donate at all, please contact me. We can work out a plan and see about provisions to help.
